<p>This is a simple tutorial showing basic options for adding images to your posts. Once you become more confident you can experiment with multiple additions, slideshows and so on.</p>
<p>Note: as this will be published then you need to make sure you have permission to use the images you upload, or the original copyright. If you took the photos yourself, then you do. If not, you may need to ask permission. (BTW, unless you are a church or a school, you cannot use Microsoft clipart on your blog, as it isnt licensed for this.)</p>
<h3>Getting Started</h3>
<p>1. Create a new post in the usual way and then click on the 'add image' button. (Images can be added before or after the text, or at any stage later):</p>
<p><a href="http://www.motleywebdesign.com/components/com_wordpress/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/addimages1.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-80" title="Adding Images to a WordPress Blog 1" src="http://www.motleywebdesign.com/components/com_wordpress/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/addimages1.jpg" alt="Adding Images to a WordPress Blog 1" width="500" height="400" /></a><br />
2. You will see a dialogue box allowing you to browse your computer to locate image files for your blog:<br />
<a href="http://www.motleywebdesign.com/components/com_wordpress/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/addimages2.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-79" title="Adding Images to a WordPress Blog 2" src="http://www.motleywebdesign.com/components/com_wordpress/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/addimages2.jpg" alt="Adding Images to a WordPress Blog 2" width="500" height="235" /></a><br />
3. Choose a file and you should see the progress bar indicating successful upload:<br />
<a href="http://www.motleywebdesign.com/components/com_wordpress/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/addimage3.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-83" title="Adding Images to a WordPress Blog 3" src="http://www.motleywebdesign.com/components/com_wordpress/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/addimage3.jpg" alt="Adding Images to a WordPress Blog 3" width="500" height="294" /></a><br />
4. Enter a title, Alt text (for screen readers to improve accessibility) and caption. Captions and descriptions are optional. Also select image alignment and size:<br />
<a href="http://www.motleywebdesign.com/components/com_wordpress/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/addimage4.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-82" title="Adding Images to a WordPress Blog 4" src="http://www.motleywebdesign.com/components/com_wordpress/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/addimage4.jpg" alt="Adding Images to a WordPress Blog 4" width="500" height="637" /></a><br />
5. Choose the 'Insert into Post' button and you should be taken back to the post:<br />
<a href="http://www.motleywebdesign.com/components/com_wordpress/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/addimage5.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-81" title="Adding Images to a WordPress Blog 5" src="http://www.motleywebdesign.com/components/com_wordpress/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/addimage5.jpg" alt="Adding Images to a WordPress Blog 5" width="500" height="406" /></a><br />
6. At any stage you can choose to preview your post and save the draft. Finally publish your post in the usual way.</p>
<p>7. In addition you can explore the options to add images from other sources. All images that you upload will appear in the Media Library allowing you to organise your images and use them in more than one post if you wish.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.motleywebdesign.com/components/com_wordpress/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/addimage6.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-107" title="Adding Images to a WordPress Blog 6" src="http://www.motleywebdesign.com/components/com_wordpress/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/addimage6.jpg" alt="Adding Images to a WordPress Blog 6" width="500" height="223" /></a>
